The role of the secretary has changed dramatically over the past few years. Fears that advances in office technology would result in the extinction of the secretarial role were proven wrong. The secretary today has evolved and holds a key role in the office environment.
The programme is directly relevant to the needs of the modern office environment and helps students develop skills and abilities for successful careers in responsible secretarial positions.
The programme develops student’s competence with computer packages including Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases / Filing Systems, and Information Network Systems. It also provides a very thorough general business studies background, both on a practical as well as on a theoretical level, in a wide range of business disciplines like Office Administration, Management, Business Communication, Accounting, Marketing and Public Relations.
The programme aims:
- To prepare students for secretarial employment opportunities.
- To provide students with good business awareness, decision making and time management skills so as to enable them to hold responsible secretarial positions.
- To provide students with sound training in theory and application, to enable them to acquire secretarial competence.
- To provide students with an awareness of business problems relating to the role of the private/executive secretary and the means to cope and deal with them effectively.
- To equip students with practical experience in using computer and information systems.
- To help students develop accuracy, flexibility, commitment and initiative.
