Social work is a profession that responds to crises and emergencies as well as to everyday personal and social problems. It helps individuals, families, groups or communities in order to develop or regain their ability to be socially functional and enjoy creatively the products of development in their domain (economic, social, cultural) and at the same time to achieve their objectives.
In Cyprus in accordance with a recent statute, social workers are required to have special training at Higher Educational Institutions as a precondition for practicing the profession.
The course is designed to prepare students for social work practice. It draws on theories of human behaviour and social systems, social welfare policy, human rights and social justice and the social environment.

  • Social Welfare/Providence Services
  • Health Services (hospitals, Rehabilitation Centres, Clinics etc.)
  • Mental Health Services (Psychiatric Clinics, community mental health, rehabilitation of mentally sick, etc.)
  • General Rehabilitation Services:
    • Invalid
    • Discharged prisoners
    • Rehabilitation after a health problem (Aids - Stroke etc.)
    • Rehabilitation of law breakers
    • Rehabilitation of addicts
  • Education Services (Schools, Universities)
  • Private or Community Kindergarten, children clubs and Centres of Children Day Care
  • Institutional Services (child protection, adolescent or juvenile offences against Invalid, Aged)
  • Courts:
    • Supervision of juvenile offenders
    • Guardian Supervision of Adults

  • Support Services (individuals, families of vulnerable groups, population etc.)
  • Local Government

Advantages for the holders of the BA Degree in Social Work:

  • Holders of the BA Degree in Social Work can pursue employment in the Private and Public Sectors.
  • Continue for postgraduate studies at FIT and acquire the Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA).
  • Continue for postgraduate studies (MA//MBA/PhD) at UK or USA Universities.
