Erasmus Exchange at Frederick Institute of Technology
Erasmus is a European exchange programme which enables students to study or work in another Erasmus participating country as part of their degree. You will study in classes alongside Cypriot and international students. During your study you will be given the opportunity to work closely with, and get to know, other students on your program of study.
To be considered as an Erasmus student for study, your Department in your home institution needs to hold an inter-institutional agreement with the same Department at Frederick Institute of Technology.

The beautiful island-nation of Cyprus is located in the south-eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea, at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, covering an area of 9,251 sq. km. with a population of 780,000. Frederick Institute of Technology (FIT) is an energetic and vibrant higher educational institution. It is registered with the Ministry of Education and Culture and is one of the largest private institutions in the Republic of Cyprus. In selecting FIT, you will be joining one of the oldest higher educational institutions in Cyprus. Transcripts
Erasmus students studying at Frederick Institute of Technology, at the end of their study period will be issued official transcripts showing details of the studies they have undertaken at Frederick Institute of Technology and the ECTS awarded. The transcript of record describing their achievements during the mobility period will be provided within a month after the end of the mobility period.

At Frederick Institute of Technology all international students have the same opportunities as Cypriot students and the right to participate in all clubs, activities and events that are organized by FIT.
Orientation
We believe that it is important for new students to feel at home during their studies at Frederick Institute of Technology and that is why we organize a number of social events at the beginning of each semester to help incoming students settle in as easily as possible. An Orientation Program at the beginning of each semester, which aims at familiarizing students with departments, programs of studies, requirements, student services, and campus facilities is strongly recommended to all new students. Students have the opportunity to attend seminars on topics that help them adjust to their new environment and also attend a number of other social events to meet new friends.
Clubs and Societies
Excluding the numerous opportunities that Cyprus offers for leisure activities, Frederick Institute of Technology aims at supporting students in order to enjoy an active and vibrant social life. Students enjoy weekend or vacation excursions to the countryside. Such outings offer opportunities to meet and socialize with fellow students and staff away from the routine of the classroom. Through participation in student clubs and societies students have the opportunity to participate in many social and cultural activities. Getting involved is a good way for foreign students to meet new friends and make the most of their stay as part of the Frederick Institute of Technology community. Participation in clubs and societies exposes students to new life experiences, helps them develop valuable leadership skills and abilities and provides opportunities for them to express creativity and talent.
Erasmus Student Association (ESA)
ESN was founded in the Netherlands in 1989. After that, it was founded in various European universities and with the financial support from the European Commission; the official ESN International was organized.
In 2008, the Erasmus Student Association – Cyprus was founded as a non-profit, non-partisan, non-political, student association which works in the interest of exchange students from all higher education institutions in Cyprus.
ESA`s main objective is to ensure that every student coming for an exchange program to Cyprus is warmly welcomed, receive all the information they need and become immediately involved in the local student life. To achieve this goal, Erasmus Student Association organizes several meetings, trips, sports activities and cultural events open for all exchange students in Cyprus. Acceptance Letter:
Within 10 working days after the application deadline, successful candidates will receive an acceptance letter or e-mail giving details of arrangements for induction and enrolment if appropriate, when to arrive and what to bring.
Fees
When on exchange, no tuition fees are ever paid to the host university. Our Incoming Students may attend all courses taught free of charge.

Most of the Programs offered at Frederick Institute of Technology are taught in English but some of the Greek-speaking departments offer some courses in English especially for Incoming Erasmus students.

Erasmus Intensive Greek Language Course (EILC)
Almost every year Frederick University offers Greek Language Courses to Erasmus students through the EILC Program. For Course availability, please contact the Erasmus Institutional Co-ordinator
Students participating in the course receive 6 ECTS credits upon the successful completion of the course.
Through the Erasmus Intensive Greek Language Course, students learn to speak Modern Greek and explore the rich culture of Cyprus through conversational exercises that help them to develop their fluency. All the students have the opportunity to enrich their vocabulary in special scientific areas according to their studies having a 5 hour special program-GSP (Greek for Special Purpose).
Other Language Courses:
Besides the EILC course, Frederick Institute of Technology usually offers several courses in English and Greek throughout the semesters. The courses difficulty ranges from elementary to advance. Erasmus students are welcome to register to the language courses. Please check for availability with the Erasmus Institutional Co-ordinator.

Upon Arrival
Upon arrival all incoming students first have to report to the Erasmus Mobility Office (Nicosia Campus), where they will complete an official registration form and will be guided to the appropriate departmental coordinator for signing up to their specific courses. Please bring with you a valid picture identification card. Students will also receive their Frederick Institute of Technology student card, which gives them access to the library and discounts to numerous entertainment events.
Extensions of Stay / Reductions of Stay
Any requests for extensions or reductions of stay must be made in writing to the ERASMUS officer of the home institution as soon as possible (2-3 months in advance). The officer will then liaise closely with the ERASMUS Institutional Coordinator of the host institution before responding.
Students with dependents
The majority of property available to accommodation services is for single people only. Students seeking accommodation for dependents, such as spouse and children, should ensure that they inform the Erasmus Institutional coordinator as soon as possible. Do not attempt to bring dependents to Cyprus without first securing accommodation.
Students with special needs
Students with special needs are required to submit details of any disability, in order to make special arrangements both in classrooms and accommodation, prior to their arrival.
Non-European Students

1) Correct identity card or international passport;
2) a document that states that you are insured by your institution or government for sickness and accidents;
3) Check with the local Cyprus embassy on visa regulation and additional documents to bring!!
Visa issue
Due to the need for the issuing of student visas, it is important that all international students follow closely the procedures set. Failure to do so may jeopardize their application and/or entry to Cyprus. Due to the fact that formalities for the issue of an entry visa take at least six weeks, candidates are urged to file an application at least 8 weeks prior to the expected date of enrollment.
As the rules of the Migration Department may change from, time to time, students are advised to contact us for reconfirmation of the requirements, before forwarding documents for the issue of a student visa.

Frederick Institute of Technology does not own a Halls of Residence. However, a free and comprehensive accommodation service is offered to every incoming student who is looking for a place to live. Help and advice is given in all aspects related to housing and accommodation and an up-to-date list of proposed places is made available. We provide advice on privately rented property available in the area close our Campus.
Prices range depending on the luxury level, varying from 250€/month for basic accommodation with shared facilities in a house to 500€/month for a private apartment. Electricity, water and telephone expenses are not included in the rent and will have to be paid separately to the owner. The flats usually have blankets but not bed linen nor towels.

Going abroad on an exchange program requires a lot of preparation and administration. You have to think about all the documents to regulate your credits, but also insurance, taking money along, passport and perhaps visa requirements must be considered.
Insurance
European students have to visit their health/social insurance organization before coming to Cyprus and get the relevant EU health insurance documents (EHIC- http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=559) for the length of their stay, in case they are in need of medical or dental care. They are then entitled to use the public medical services on the same basis as Cypriot citizens.
Non-European students have to check the insurance policy of their home institute and country and to have to have some form of private medical insurance before their arrival. It is a good idea to discuss with parents and individual insurance company what type of coverage (e.g. accident, travel, property and liability) would be most beneficial for your stay in Cyprus.
Money
Check with your bank to see if your bankcards and credit cards are usable in other European countries. If you are staying for more than 3 months in Cyprus, it may be a good idea to open a bank account in Cyprus. You could then transfer money to this account or deposit the money you bring with you. Please consult with your home bank on the different ways to transfer money.
Climate and clothes
When you pack for Cyprus, you do not have to pack very heavy. One of the benefits of being a Mediterranean island is plentiful sunshine throughout the year with sunny days and fine temperatures almost every day. Extremes of temperatures are rare, meaning Cyprus has something to offer every month of the year, whether it's swimming (as late as November) or enjoying cultural sites and festivals all year long. While seasonal fluctuations are not drastic, they do exist over the year.
