In-Person Individual Counselling
We offer one-on-one appointments to students seeking to resolve or manage a specific emotional, personal or psychological issue. In these sessions, you will have the opportunity to talk and express yourself, without being judged, in a safe and confidential environment. A trained counsellor will listen to you and help you find ways to deal with your concern.
Online Individual Counselling
We also offer online synchronous counselling support to students seeking to resolve or manage a specific emotional, personal or psychological issue.
Referrals
Sometimes we may determine that you need more specialised and/or long-term support and that a referral to another service provider outside Campus may be more suitable for you. The Counselling Centre’s professionals will help you identify the most suitable support for you in the community, offer guidance, help you connect with them and follow up with you to ensure you are receiving the services you need.
Emergencies / Crisis Intervention
While we do not run an out-of-hours emergency service, if we are not open we will get to you first thing in the following day. If you are experiencing an emergency or a crisis situation after hours, please contact the emergency line 112.

Worried about another student?
If you're worried about another student, the Counselling Centre is available to meet with you in order to give advice, support and information about the problems your friend is experiencing. Some people may feel reluctant to talk to a professional and may need you to help them with reaching out or even escorting them to the Centre. However, remember that we each deal with difficulties in our own unique way and sometimes it is enough if we have a friend who listens and shows empathy.
Counselling for Staff Members
At the Counselling Centre all our services are designed for our student population. However, if you are a member of our staff and are seeking counselling support services, we can meet in order to help you identify community resources that are most suitable for you. Also, some of the wellbeing workshops we offer are open to all Frederick University members (staff and students).
We assure you that we take confidentiality very seriously and that we respect your privacy. All of us at the Counselling Centre are bound by our Professional Code of Ethics as well as the Frederick Institute of Technology Data Protection Policy. Everything you share with us is confidential. We will not disclose any information without your permission or consent.
The only exception to confidentiality is where we determine there is a significant danger to you or others or where there is a legal obligation to disclose information. Even in these instances, we will strive, wherever possible, to inform you before any information is disclosed.
